Association of Religious Service Attendance With Mortality Among Women
Li S, Stampfer MJ, Williams DR, VanderWeele TJ.
JAMA Internal Medicine ยท 2016
In plain language
In a 16-year follow-up of over 74,000 women, those who attended religious services more than once a week had 33% lower all-cause mortality than those who never attended, even after adjusting for major lifestyle factors. This is a strong observational association; it doesn't establish that attendance itself is the cause rather than the healthier social networks and habits that often go with it.
