Purpose in Life as a Predictor of Mortality Across Adulthood
Hill PL, Turiano NA.
Psychological Science ยท 2014
In plain language
In a 14-year follow-up of the MIDUS national sample, people who reported a stronger sense of purpose in life had a lower risk of dying during the study period, independent of age or retirement status. As with other purpose-mortality findings, this is a correlational study, not evidence that purpose alone causes longer life.
